Who’s Got The Bribes?

There are claims that Zenit St. Petersburg’s UEFA CUP Trophy was bought. The claim was from Russian mafioso. Dont think about club management nor any related side did some disgraceful thing here. Not even the coach nor the players.

The newspaper ABC said Gennadios Petrov, head of a powerful Russian underworld gang, and one of his cohorts said they used between 20 and 40 million euros to “buy” the semi-final and the final, according to a telephone conversation intercepted by Spanish police.

Since the report came out, European authorities have been working to investigate that. Let’s keep that way.

I don’t buy that claims. European football are something well ordered. They settled enough. Even in third European class countries such as Malta or Cyprus. Clearly, they still need some money but they won’t do harmly thing to get some. Law and order are on their way respectively. Surely, nothing is perfect. There is always chance to do some corruption, bribes and so on in Europe.

In this mafia war case, who’s got the bribes anyway? Referees or players or officials from such open books club likes Zenit St. Petersburg, Bayern Muenchen, Glasgow Rangers and Fiorentina? Did these fabulous fat rich clubs, especially Bayern, feel equitably to take the bribes? I don’t think so.

After all, Zenit got some weapons to grab that trophy last season. They also won European Super Cup by defeated Manchester United. More less, Zenit aren’t little tiny team a.k.a poor one. I really don’t see Zenit had any reasons to collect the bribes.

Some people think it was all about bragging in mafia world. The criminal gangs love to do so. Bragging is pretty normal. Even though, the autorities had to take an action. Fortunately, they’ve been on the way.

I think football industry is about trust and credibility. Italia Serie A had bad experience with them. Tax, referee and match-fixing scandals hit their wallets and popularities several years ago. It’s been hard to get them back while the other leagues are enjoying their own wonderful time. Trust is something will deny corruption, bribes, gambling or any other bad things in football. Same as we do in our daily lives.

Perhaps, Indonesian football league will share their legendary fairy tale about that, won’t they?

Gambling? Bukannya di sono judi itu legal? So I think it isn’t a “bad things in football”.

Tapi kalau di Indonesia saya yakin sudah tidak begitu kok, Sam.. Tuh buktinya, seorang Ketua PSSI pun akan dipenjara jika berbuat salah..

hehehe … if this is really true story, it means Russian mafioso is richer that German’s football club. For the case of Indonesia, I think this story can be an inspiring thing for the PSSI. Maybe they have more talent to be like Russian mafia than playing football …

If it’s true I believe it was more on the gambling. Those Russian mafioso perhaps put their money on Zenit and tried to bribe the referee or maybe the linesmen. I remember about a year ago when Liverpool beat Besiktas 8-0 in champions league there were some rumours also about gambling mafia involved because there’s an unregular betting pattern for that match. Only God knows :)
